Welcome to the Department of Electronic Engineering

The present Electronic Engineering Department was established over 30 years ago. It is one of the largest departments within the University with a thriving undergraduate and postgraduate student population of over 600.

Dedicated teaching staff, many who are experts in their particular fields, supports the students. In parallel the excellence of our research is recognised worldwide by the receipt of many prestigious awards. In addition our highly successful Short Courses and Continuing Professional Development Units help to supply Industry's need to keep pace with the latest technology.

Teaching

At both Undergraduate and Postgraduate level our modular programmes offer flexibility, allowing interdisciplinary combinations. The syllabus is continually under development and review, in line with the requirements of various professional bodies that accredit our courses, and the latest technological needs of industry.

The quality of the teaching is reflected by the award of 23 out of 24 in the recent teaching assessment, and is why the employment of graduates from the School is almost 100%, much higher than the national average.

Research

The department is particularly proud of the wide range and quality of its research activity; a fact confirmed by the Department's receipt of the coveted 5*A research rating in the recent official Research Assessment Exercise, RAE2001.

We continue to extend the boundaries of science and technology particularly in the fields of Satellite Engineering, Mobile Communications, Digital Broadcasting, and Micro-processing
